The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) is an educational foundation which promotes Science and Computer Science in India. Its motto is “Let the apple fall, again.” Every year, it hosts two competitions throughout the country, and in a few places outside it too. The two competitions are the National Science Olympiad (NSO), and the National Cyber Olympiad (NCO).
The students participating in the competitions are given inspiring books. In the NSO, it’s the Inspirational Book of Science, and in the NCO, it is the Compulsory Computer Book. The students also get their performance report, giving their school, state and country rank. It also has their percentile score, along with the performance
The National Science Olympiad
The NSO is one of the most prestigious science competitions in India. It is a competition for school students. The students from Standard 3-12 are eligible for appearing in it. However, you have to participate through your school, individual participation is not encouraged. The examination, is of course different for all classes. The first round is given by all the participants. On the basis of the first round, 500 students from each standard are selected for the second round. The questions in both rounds are divided into 3 sections - Mental Ability, Logical and Analytical Reasoning and Science. All of the student who qualify for Round 2 get some award. There is also an award called the School Topper Medal, which is essentially a medal given to the topping student in each class of each school with more than 25 participants in the concerned class. Here is the awarding scheme :
